I've had friends and family members continuously ask me the same basic computer software questions for years. If you're the computer teacher of your family, I'm sure you have the same story. I put together a quick lesson-of-the-day in each of the four popular Microsoft products for you to share with your friends and family for today.

Microsoft Excel: How to Select All Cells 1. Open a blank Excel worksheet. 2. Enter the numbers 1 to 9 into cells D2 to F9. 3. Click on any cell in the data area such as D2. 4. Press and hold down the Ctrl key on the keyboard. 5. Press and release the letter " A " key on the keyboard without releasing the Ctrl key. 6. All cells in the data area (D2 to F9) should be selected. 7. Press and release the letter " A " a second time. 8. All cells in the worksheet should be selected.

Microsoft Word: Quick Selection … the shift key. By holding down the shift key while using one of the navigational shortcut keys (this trick should work in conjunction with most of them), Word will select the text (and other objects as you navigate past it.

You can also use it with the mouse. Click at the beginning of the text block you wish to select and hold the shift key when you click at the end of the block of text you wish to select.

Microsoft Powerpoint: Preview Slide Show Effects While editing a presentation, hold down the CTRL key while clicking the slide show view button; this will open a tiny preview window showing that slide in slide show mode.

Microsoft XP Operating System: How to Create a New Folder 1. Click once with your Left mouse button on the letter C in the left hand pane of the Windows Explorer 2. On the menu bar across the top that has File, Edit, View, Go, Click the File option once with your Left mouse button 3. From the menu that drops down, move your mouse pointer to New 4. A sub menu appears 5. Click the word "Folder" once with your left Mouse button
